This August, Daisy Lane Early Learning is turning its attention inward, introducing gentle mindfulness activities for children that help our youngest learners understand and manage their own big feelings.

Why Mindfulness Belongs in Early Learning

Emotional regulation is one of the most important skills a young child can develop, and it takes genuine practice to build. Simple mindfulness activities for children give little ones real tools for noticing and managing their emotions, supporting:

- Greater self-awareness of feelings and physical sensations

- Improved focus and listening during group activities

- Calmer transitions between different parts of the day

- Early language for naming and expressing emotions

At Daisy Lane Early Learning, our mindfulness activities for children are always playful and age-appropriate, never forced or overly structured.

Our August Mindfulness Program

Belly Breathing With Toys

Children lie down with a soft toy on their tummy and watch it rise and fall as they breathe slowly, a simple, visual way to practise calming breaths.

Feelings Check-In Circle

Each morning, children choose a picture or colour that matches how they are feeling, building emotional vocabulary and a sense of being heard.

Mindful Nature Walks

Slow, quiet walks around our outdoor spaces encourage children to notice what they can see, hear, and smell, building present-moment awareness through nature.

Calm Down Corner

A dedicated cosy space with soft cushions, sensory tools, and simple breathing prompts gives children somewhere gentle to go when big feelings arise.

Bringing Mindfulness Home

Families can extend our mindfulness activities for children at home with simple ideas such as a shared belly breathing moment before bed, a quiet "noticing" walk around the block, or a family feelings check-in at dinner time.

At Daisy Lane Early Learning, we believe that helping children understand their emotions now builds the foundation for lifelong emotional wellbeing, and August Mindfulness is a gentle, joyful step in that direction.
